The Mike Tomlin Era Begins Tuesday, Jan 23 2007

Cowher finally made it official about two weeks ago and resigned as coach of the Pittsburgh Steelers. Note that I did not say retired, because Cowher made it very clear that he was not retiring, only resigning as coach of the Steelers. Some people took this to think that it was all about money, which if is true, is pretty ridiculous. The Rooneys stuck by Cowher through some difficult times where some other owners might not have been as patient and this allowed him to go to and finally win that Super Bowl that then would make him feel that he was worth more money. If he left because of money and not the family (smokescreen) that he set forth as his reason for resigning, that is ridiculous and he is a back stabber who should have repaid the loyalty that the Rooneys showed him. However, this post is not about Cowher. This post is about the new head coach of the Pittsburgh Steelers, Mike Tomlin.

I’ll admit that I didn’t know much about Tomlin. I knew his coaching resume, which is impressive, if not lengthy. However, he is a young coach and seems very well spoken and knowledgeable about the game. I’m excited about the new era of Steelers football and I can’t wait until August when things really start heating up again to see what this guy can do for the team, the city, and the fans. Welcome Mike, hope you do well! I’ll try to get some information up about the new coach. For now, enjoy his introductory press conference and a link to his Wikipedia page, which actually broke the news of his hiring about 2 or 3 days before the national media. :lol

Okay Sunday, Jan 14 2007

Time to get serious about this page. I have two (three, if you are really counting) web pages that are simply languishing on this server. I really want to make this page a stop for Steelers fans on the web, so I need to get my butt in gear and put some thing up here. We’ll see how it goes. I have an entire off-season and hopefully not much going on this summer to do so.

Pittsburgh Steelers 13, Oakland Raiders 20 Thursday, Nov 2 2006

The Raiders had a total of 98 yards on offense and 9 first downs. The Steelers had 360 total yards and 15 first downs. So, that score above can’t possibly be correct, can it? Oh, it is. The Steelers totally dominated the Raiders on the stat sheet and they lost by a touchdown. The Raiders were helped by four interceptions thrown by Big Ben, two of which were returned for 6 the other way. Nevertheless, this loss (on top of the ATL debacle) is almost too much to bear. Pittsburgh Steelers 38, Atlanta Falcons 41 (OT) Monday, Oct 23 2006

Wow. Where to start? The numerous turnovers? The horrid special teams play? The defensive sieve? Honestly, where do I start to break down this game? The Steelers continue to play maddeningly inconsistent football this season and with Big Ben being knocked out of the game with a concussion, who’s to say that it won’t continue for the rest of the season. I hate to write them off with 10 games left to go, but, honestly, this season is starting to look like a wash. The Steelers just can’t get it done this year, can’t finish games this year, too many “can’t”s right now to overcome. Maybe they’ll prove me wrong, but this is looking like a lost season. (more…)

Miami Dolphins 17, Pittsburgh Steelers 28 Sunday, Sep 10 2006

No Big Ben? No problem. Charlie Batch filled in quite nicely for Big Ben as whatever curse or hex or whammy has been following him this offseason took away the young man’s appendix only days before the start of the season. Willie Parker proved that he could fill in for the Bus’s very large shoes at least for one game and the defense, while shaky, proved that they are still the best against the run and will only improve as the season continues. Banging my own drum: My father in law asked me for a score prediction and I said 21-17. Only off by a touchdown isn’t so bad. (more…)

Pittsburgh Steelers 34, Denver Broncos 17 Saturday, Jan 28 2006

The “Road Warriors” (not the wrestling guys) rode into Denver this past Sunday and came out with their ticket punched to the biggest game in the show. Not this SHoW, the actual show, the NFL. This is the Steelers first Super Bowl appearance in 10 years, last having lost to the Dallas Cowboys in Super Bowl XXX in what has become known in Steelers circles as the “Neil O’Donnell is a(n) *insert your favorite epithet here* Bowl”. Apologies to Denver, who put together a good team, but you just faced the Steelers at the worst possible time (for you) and were just another speed bump to get the Bus back home. (more…)

Pittsburgh Steelers 21, Indianapolis Colts 18 Monday, Jan 16 2006

We here at the SHoW have been absent again. This time we have an excuse, though. Several of them, in fact. First, we moved into a new house and didn’t have internet access. Then our laptop decided to do a poopie in its pants and it is in the shop being repaired. Third, the other computer is in the cold, uninsulated basement and I’m not venturing down there for anything. We’re back in commission, though, now and still alive despite the heart attack inducing finish to yesterday’s game. (more…)

The Dirty Half Dozen - vs. Detroit Lions Friday, Dec 30 2005

The Pittsburgh Steelers have atoned for their earlier three game losing streak by going on three game streak in the opposite direction. Add to the fact that their closest rivals in the wildcard hunt decided to take the past few weeks off and the Steelers are now in the driver’s seat for the 6th and final playoff spot in the AFC. They are playing the hapless Detroit Lions at home, where they’ve been embarrassed a few times this season. Continue to see the six keys that we here at the SHoW think are the most important for the Steelers to destroy the Lions and move into the playoffs for the second straight year. Why only six? Well, the Lions really are bad and I don’t think it’ll take much out of the Steelers to beat them severely. (more…)

Pittsburgh Steelers 41, Cleveland Browns 0 Wednesday, Dec 28 2005

Merry Christmas to all and to all a good night! The Steelers kicked off the Christmas holiday weekend with a thorough and complete domination of their Cleveland rivals. This was undoubtedly the best game that the Steelers played this season and it couldn’t have come at a better time or against a better team. I wouldn’t have happened against a better team because they’d have been a better team. The Steelers are playing good, consistent ball just in time for the playoffs to start. I want to get excited again, but I’m afraid. The Bill and Co. have let us down before. We’ll see how things shake down come playoff time, but for now, enjoy the holidays. (more…)
